Middle Ague
When I was younger, '50' seemed so old, so far in the future. Now that I am in my early fifties, I realize that I'm still me -- it seems that just the world sees me differently. Yes, I have some wrinkles and starting-to-sag skin, and I have to think twice before throwing on a miniskirt -- but inside I still feel like me. Reconciling the 'inside' me with the 'outside' me is something I have to do every day.
I obviously have some vanity (what blogger doesn't?) -- and am not entirely willing to throw in the towel. It's a constant challenge to stay on-trend but age-appropriate. I don't necessarily buy in to all the rules of beauty and aging, but some of them are there for a reason. Choosing which ones to follow is an art -- and I know I don't always get it right. But if I stop trying...
I've gone through phases where I stay in my workout gear all day long (gross, I know, but entirely practical -- let's be honest, we know who does the laundry). I've invested a lot in my athletic wardrobe since it is so important to me. But I also continue to admire -- and purchase -- non-exercise outfits. The challenge is finding the right places to wear them. Younger fashion bloggers may gladly throw on skimpy tops and sky-high heels for a mid-morning Wednesday grocery run, but I find that this level -- for me -- is trying too hard.
Come with me on my journey as I strive to look stylish yet appropriate while experiencing life from the other side of 50.
You'll also have to bear with me and my singular photography skills. Not ready yet to have others take my fashion photos! This gear is all Lululemon.
